With shorter passages and longer stays than in past years, we've planned this summer's cruise itinerary to appeal to cruising members with younger families.
DEADLINE: I'll need a boat count with an indication of numbers aboard by Tuesday evening, July 10th. Please email me: John Gilpatric
The July 4th cruise is coming up on us, meanwhile. Please let me know by tomorrow evening if you're coming so I can get word around. So far, Pat and Donna Griffin and the Mc Cabes have indicated they're heading to Potter Cove.
Wheatfield Cove- a 14 nm run from Brenton Cove. Two miles north of Galilee up Point Judith Pond, anchor behind (east of) Beach Island in 7 ft. of water. This is a quiet and scenic spot, protected and in good holding ground. If I can find an accommodating boat with sufficient cockpit space, we'll plan a cocktail party.
Sunday and Monday,
July 22 - 23
Block Island (14 nm) on individually secured moorings. There should be good mooring availability Sunday afternoon. Hail the Harbor Master on Ch 12 upon arrival. The charge is $40 a night plus a landing fee of 50 cents a head. Our planned lobster picnic on the beach proved unfeasible as a town ordinance prohibits alcohol; so we're arranging for a lobster dinner at the Beachhead Monday night, probably under a private tent.
Tuesday, July 24
West Harbor on Fishers Island (21 nm) on unreserved moorings or in individually reserved FIYC slips (call 631-788-7036) with dinner ashore at the kid-friendly and funky Pequot Inn in small groups. An easy walking distance from the FIYC dinghy dock, this is the only restaurant on the island.
Wednesday & Thursday, July 25 - 26 *
Mystic Seaport (7 nm) tied up along the bulkhead at $4.50 per ft. per night ($3.75 for members)*. This includes admission for all onboard with full run of the place. We're on our own Wednesday evening for dinner, but there are plenty of good restaurants in Mystic within easy walking distance. We'll plan a group dinner Thursday night at the Latitude 41 Restaurant (individual cc's accepted), which is on the grounds. This is the old Seamans Inn, which has been gussied-up.
Friday & Saturday,
July 27 - 28
Watch Hill Cove (9 nm) on moorings ($55 a night, first-come basis) with dinner ashore probably Friday at the WHYC-provided grills. Good protection and sandy holding ground here. We're planning familyactivities for Saturday depending on who's coming for this segment.
Sunday, July 29
Home (favoring current through the Watch hill Passage) - 31 nm.
*For those planning to join our fleet tied up along the Mystic Seaport bulkhead, you must individually make a one-night dockage deposit. Download the Seaports Boaters' Guide PDF file (http://www.mysticseaport.org/files/site_files/Visit/2012_Boaters_Guide.pdf) or check out "Boaters' Rates Reservations and Cancellations" at the Seaport's website (http://www.mysticseaport.org/). I've reserved and put a deposit on 10 spots along the bulkhead. It is essential that when you call the Seaport Dock Office (860-572-5391) you identify your boat as part of the ILYC visiting fleet, as I will be canceling the balance of our reservation after 7/10.
