ILYC Shields Racing
When the Shields Class was launched in the 1960s, Ida Lewis Yacht Club was one of the first clubs to develop a fleet (see "At Ida Lewis Since First Launch, the Shields is a Newport Institution"). Over the years, Shields Fleet 9 has grown to become the largest and most competitive Shields fleet nationwide, and it includes owners from several clubs on Narragansett Bay. Roughly half of the current fleet flies the Ida Lewis YC burgee, with top-quality race management provided by the ILYC Race Committee.
