This is a fundraiser to resurrect, on film, the
forgotten story of Ida Lewis, this country's most
famous Lighthouse keeper and national heroine
from the 1800s
At Jane Pickens Theatre, on
Monday, August 22, where the 47-minute documentary "Rhode Island's Historic
Lighthouses" will be shown (of course the Ida Lewis Lighthouse is a part of
that film). Guests will also be able to meet Marian Gagnon, the filmmaker (who will talk
about the upcoming Ida film) and Lenore Skomal, author of "The Lighthouse
Keeper's Daughter" who will read a few snippets from her book. Tickets $15 (and tax deductible)
In September, Marian will come down to the club to meet and discuss her current project - Ida Lewis - see below Sunday, September 11th.
Labor Day weekend; the 84 year old race is a key part of the summer’s last sailing blast of the season. Between the Classic Yacht Regatta and ATI there will be well over 100 boats filling the Bay for a spectacular day of sailing. Around the island format combines the beauty of our bay with the bragging rights of fastest around the island and the social climate of fun associated with the post race dinner and awards ceremony. Post race includes, live music, libations, awards and great food. As the day closes out…ATI competitors will know that had a great day on the bay and a lot of fun!

Sunday afternnoon at ILYC meet the Filmmaker, Marian Gagnon
We will also be able to meet the filmmaker at ILYC in September. Marian Gagnon will come down to talk about her current project - the story of Ida Lewis.
Marian Gagnon is a former journalist and now teacher of writing at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. She also is a writer, director, producer of documentaries, having started her own indie-company: Goodnight Irene Productions. She is now working on her third and fourth film projects. Her first documentary: "HERstory: The Founding Mothers of Johnson & Wales University" was nominated for a New England Emmy in 2005 and continues to air on R.I.'s PBS station.
