Program Director: Alexa Schuler
Alexa grew up in Marblehead, Massachusetts and started sailing at age 8.  In high school she was a sailing instructor for the local YMCA summer camp, and sailed recreationally with friends.  In college, at the University of Maryland, she started racing with the Maryland Sailing Team.  She was a crew for the coed team and a skipper for the women’s team.  She also started racing Lasers. After college, she continued to sail in a variety of fleets including Vanguard 15s, J 80s and Melges 24s.  In 2004 she was program director for the Boston Yacht Club’s youth program.  In 2005 she moved to Rhode Island and coached Optis, 420s and Sunfish.  Since 2005, she has been involved with youth sailing in New England, including coaching high school sailing for the North Kingston High School.

In addition to coaching, Alexa continues to actively sail year-round.  Team Racing is her favorite type of sailing and in 2010 her team, THE Woonsocket Rockets, finished 3th at the ISAF Team Racing World Championships.  She can also be found on the water sailing in Radials, Interclubs, Sonars, and Shields.
